I enjoyed another conversation recently with John Wesley Smith on his Destiny Survival Radio Show. This time we were discussing my most recent release: Landfall: Islands in the Aftermath.
John asked some great questions as usual and offered his input on how the story worked for him. He pointed out that one thing he likes about both of my series is the fact that the characters in the stories are mostly ordinary people. That was deliberate on my part of course, because I enjoy telling stories about regular people getting caught in extraordinary circumstances and then trying to figure out how to survive and deal with the situation. To me, it would be less engaging to write (and probably to read too) if the characters were all former Special Forces operatives or in some other way well-trained and capable in ways far beyond the average person. As it is, they have to learn and adapt, and like most people, they find that when tested they can be more resourceful than they might have imagined.
I’m always grateful for his continuing interest in my work and I’m looking forward to talking with John again in the near future.
